These are general tips for arranging your Wedding Flowers.
Order early
Check on the delivery schedules of your flower source to know how early you need to order. Make sure you will have delivery several days in advance.
Obtain all your supplies ahead of time
Get everything on your list. The assembly of your flowers will go much smoother if you have what you need when you need it.
Allow plenty of time for assembly
Plan more time than you think you’ll need. It helps to practice some of the techniques before your assembly day.
Have adequate help
In general, the more the merrier. Get firm commitments from those who are planning to help with the assembly. Discuss the plans in advance.
Plan for refrigeration for finished items that are not kept in water
Corsages, boutonnieres, haloes will need to be kept in refrigeration after they are assembled. Friends or neighbors might find fridge space.
Prepare containers and assemble non-perishables weeks ahead
Make bows. Label bags. Prepare flower containers. Any work you can do without the fresh flowers, do weeks or months ahead.
Condition the flowers – IMPORTANT!
Cut about 1 inch of the stems under warm water in a clean sink
Place flowers in very warm water for 3-4 hours (or longer)
Place flowers in a cool room or refrigeration
Assemble corsages and boutonnieres 2 or even 3 days in advance – then refrigerate!
Assemble nosegays 1 to 2 days in advance.
Keep in water in a cool room or fridge.
Assemble vase arrangements and centerpieces 1 to 2 days in advance.
Keep in water in a cool room or fridge.
Take all your “extras”
For each location, plan to take extra pins, wire, tape, ribbon, tools, etc. Take any left-over flowers.
Plan transportation, distribution, and set-up
- Who will transport the flowers to each location
- Who will do any set-up that is necessary
- Make lists of each person’s responsibilities
- What time the flowers should arrive at each location
- Where each item is placed at each location
